Classic Catalogue Album: Tricky 'Maxinquaye'

Classic Catalogue Album: Tricky 'Maxinquaye' Posted by Universal Music Publishing on  18 December 2012

Tricky's 'Maxinquaye' still manages to retain its power; years later, it can still sound haunting, disturbing, and surprising after countless spins. It's an album that exists outside of time and outside of trends, a record whose clanking rhythms, tape haze, murmured vocals, shards of noise, reversed gender roles, alt-rock asides, and soul samplings create a ghostly netherworld fused with seductive menace and paranoia.

Featuring vocals from Martina Topley-Bird as well as Tricky, an innovative use of samples and a stunning Public Enemy cover, 'Maxinquaye' is a landmark album.

Classic Catalogue Album: 'Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols'

Classic Catalogue Album: 'Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols' Posted by Universal Music Publishing on  22 October 2012

In their short lifespan Sex Pistols produced just one studio album, but they changed the face of popular music and culture in general.

'Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols' was released by Virgin in 1977 and perfectly articulated the frustration and rage of Britain’s disaffected  youth. Johnny Rotten’s  vitriolic vocals are matched by the punishing power chords of Steve Jones, expertly captured by producer Chris Thomas.
