Laura Mvula releases her debut album today ‘Sing to the Moon’.
Described as “the voice of 2013” by The Evening Standard, the classically trained, singer-songwriter’s music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals – or as The Line of Best fit put it “tranquil, touching and often poignant songs that act as hymns for a modern era.”
‘Sing To The Moon’ has won huge praise from music critics, with The Telegraph calling it “one of the most striking and original debuts from any British artist in many a year.” The Metro describe Laura’s vocal talent as “out of this world” whilst The Independent award 'Sing to the Moon' 5 stars and predict that it will be “the soundtrack of the summer.”
In the face of all this, Laura still remains surprised at the impact of her debut, telling Digital Spy, “This album is something I've been obsessively passionate about for a long time... I'm really pleased and very surprised by the response actually. Most things have surprised me with this whole journey so far."
Of all the praise heaped on this astonishing new talent, Clash magazine should perhaps have the final word; “Beautiful in voice and soul, lift your eyes skyward and watch this girl soar.”
