Universal Music Publishing’s Film & TV Department creates opportunities for and licenses our catalogue of songs to film, television, advertising, computer games and stage productions: what is often referred to as ‘synchronisation’. We work closely with each writer to support their creative endeavours and both promote and protect their music at every stage of their career. The UK office has a 12 strong Film & TV team working alongside similar specialist departments in our offices around the world. Covering everything from a song’s first play on UK TV to a major US hit series or scoring original film music, we always treat every use of our artists’ music with equal importance.

UMPG artists for Radio 1's Drive re-score

Three UMPG artists are set to feature in Zane Lowe’s re-score of the film Drive, broadcast on BBC Three next week. Moving away from Cliff Martinez’s original score ‘Radio 1 Rescores: Drive, Curated by Zane Lowe’ features new, exclusive tracks from CHVRCHES, Laura Mvula and Bastille, as well as many other popular contemporary artists.

The BBC has united 27 artists from the world of music for the launch of its new BBC Music initiative. The star studded line up, including UMPG signed artists Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys), Sir Elton John, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Florence Welch and Paloma Faith form an unlikely supergroup to cover The Beach Boys’ masterpiece ‘God Only Knows’ (published by Universal Music Publishing through Rondor).

UMPG win two Music Week Sync awards

Universal Music Publishing took home two Music Week Sync awards last night.

The sync partnership between Roachford’s 1988 hit single ‘Cuddly Toy’ and the film ‘Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa’ won the award for Best Movie Soundtrack whilst UMPG's Film & TV department triumphed in the Publisher Sync Team category.

These awards are testimony to the industry-leading work of Universal Music Publishing’s Film & TV department, as each category is voted for by an panel of more than 100 experts in the field - including labels, publishers, managers, sync agencies and supervisors.

Marks & Spencer have made a seductive return to food advertising with their new campaign ‘Adventures in Imagination’, urging customers to be more adventurous in their cooking by using a fresh variety of ingredients.

The beautifully shot ad is soundtracked by Clean Bandit’s number one single 'Rather Be', co-written by UMPG’s Jimmy Napes. The Cambridge band’s breakthrough single brings a brilliantly recognisable energy to the film, thanks to their trademark, infectious string line which effortlessly accompanies the fast-flowing, hunger-inducing food action.

UMPG nominated for six Music Week Sync Awards

Universal Music Publishing have been nominated for 6 awards across 5 categories at this year’s Music Week Sync Awards; a ceremony that recognises excellence within sync teams from publishers, labels and ad agencies, as well as music supervisors and individual syncs.

Sync partnerships for tracks by Lily Allen, Alanis Morrisette, Raleigh Ritchie, Starship and Roachford have all earned nomination whilst UMPG's Film & TV department have also been nominated in the Best Publisher Sync Team category.

The Music Week Sync Awards will take place on 2nd October at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in London.

Rondor Music / UMPG and DreamWorks Animation announce global publishing agreement

Lance Freed, President of Rondor Music, yesterday announced that DreamWorks Animation and Rondor Music International, a subsidiary of Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), have agreed to an exclusive, worldwide music publishing administration agreement. The long term deal includes the entire DreamWorks Animation music catalogue created over the past two decades, as well as music included in future DreamWorks Animation films, television programs and live entertainment properties.
