Universal Music Publishing’s Film & TV Department creates opportunities for and licenses our catalogue of songs to film, television, advertising, computer games and stage productions: what is often referred to as ‘synchronisation’. We work closely with each writer to support their creative endeavours and both promote and protect their music at every stage of their career. The UK office has a 12 strong Film & TV team working alongside similar specialist departments in our offices around the world. Covering everything from a song’s first play on UK TV to a major US hit series or scoring original film music, we always treat every use of our artists’ music with equal importance.

UMPG pick up two Music + Sound Awards

Ibeyi's ‘Oya’ and The Impossible Orchestra's adaptation of ‘God Only Knows’ both celebrated award wins at last nights Music + Sound Awards 2015. Ibeyi ‘Oya’ picked up an award for Best Sync / Use of Existing Music in a television program, single scene, for the programme Glue. Whilst The Impossible Orchestra's cover of The Beach Boys' ‘God Only Knows’ won best in the Re-Records + Adaptions category for the launch of BBC Music.

805 Million Names

On February 14, together with the World Food Programme, UMPG's Swedish office helped Zlatan Ibrahimović play his most important game to date.

Underneath his sweater he had 50 new names tattooed. Names of people he’d never met, but still wanted to keep close. Names of some of the 805 million people suffering from hunger today. 

These people don’t often make the front page, yet hunger and malnutrition are the number one risk to health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

This is a campaign from the World Food Programme, the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. WFP reaches more than 80 million people with food assistance in 75 countries each year.

The BBC has united 27 artists from the world of music for the launch of its new BBC Music initiative. The star studded line up, including UMPG signed artists Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys), Sir Elton John, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Florence Welch and Paloma Faith form an unlikely supergroup to cover The Beach Boys’ masterpiece ‘God Only Knows’ (published by Universal Music Publishing through Rondor).

UMPG win two Music Week Sync awards

Universal Music Publishing took home two Music Week Sync awards last night.

The sync partnership between Roachford’s 1988 hit single ‘Cuddly Toy’ and the film ‘Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa’ won the award for Best Movie Soundtrack whilst UMPG's Film & TV department triumphed in the Publisher Sync Team category.

These awards are testimony to the industry-leading work of Universal Music Publishing’s Film & TV department, as each category is voted for by an panel of more than 100 experts in the field - including labels, publishers, managers, sync agencies and supervisors.
